The SAM Junctional Turnstile (SJT) stops bleeding in places where conventional tourniquets are ineffective, for example, in the case of “IED and blast” injuries. The SJT can be used to stop bleeding in the groin and armpit.
The TCD (inflatable pillow) is placed proximally and inflated until bleeding stops. Two TCDs can be placed if there is bleeding on both sides. Also safe to use when transported by air.
The SAM Junctional Tourniquet is also a SAM Sling and can be used to stabilize pelvic fractures. When the strap is tightened, the buckle locks when maximum pressure is reached, minimizing the risk of over-compression and other complications.
