The 4BC kit has been specially developed to maximize the survivability of victims. The first priority is to stop bleeding as soon as possible. Bleeding of limbs is the most common cause of death among victims of, for example, an attack.
Direct lifesaving actions significantly reduce mortality. External bleeding should be stopped as soon as possible by professional medical emergency services, but ambulance services may be delayed due to the circumstances resulting in unnecessary mortality. The reason for this is the increasing violence caused by attacks such as Paris, Brussels, Berlin, London and Nice. It is not always clear whether it is safe for emergency medical services. as a result of which the first responder will often be present first.
The first responder can perform relatively simple life-saving operations with items from the 4BC kit. However, we do advise to learn how to work with these items during our First Aid Under Danger course. In order to be able to save lives more effectively.
The 4BC kits were also taken by French and Belgian emergency services following the attacks in Paris and Brussels.
